Going on a Sea Cruise: Kotor, Montenegro

Bay of Kotor

Kotor, a fortified town in Montenegro provides an astounding 360° view entering the gulf as well as exiting.  This my friends is one port you want to be top-deck and ready to take it all in. First mentioned in 168 BC during the Roman era, the small town was fortified during the Middle Ages.  The exact time of founding is unknown.

Kotor is one of the best preserved medieval old towns on the Adriatic Sea and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Going on a Sea Cruise: Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik Title

Welcome to part three in this Going on a Sea Cruise series.  In part three, we visit Dubrovnik, Croatia.  After leaving Venice, Italy, the first port of call for Royal Caribbean’s Rhapsody of the Seas is Dubrovnik, Croatia.  Yes, the same Dubrovnik that Game of Thrones is filmed.  This city is the reason that I chose this cruise.  Other itineraries went to Split instead.  While I am sure that city is awesome and beautiful, I wanted to see Dubrovnik.

Going on a Sea Cruise: Rhapsody of the Seas

On the day of embarkation, getting to the Port of Venice proved to be a quick jaunt from the hotel and obtaining a cab across from the hotel at the train station was easy and painless.  The total price for transportation was €35. The ride itself reminded me of being back in Beijing in a cab riding to the hotel wizzing and zooming and zig-zagging through traffic, both white-knuckled.  This ride however, was made a bit more palatable with the company of family and the excitement of the adventure that awaited us all.

Going on a Sea Cruise – Part 1

There are many factors that go into taking a cruise versus flying to a city to visit.  There are many benefits to just flying to a city, such as staying overnight and enjoying nice restaurants, nightlife, or just seeing the city at night.  There is just more time to “get a feel” for the city and enjoy its culture.
