Florence, Italy: Rustic Beauty and Unmatched Cuisine

florence title

Florence; the mear mention of the city brings visions of Renaissance art and statues.  David, Michaelangelo’s masterpiece is center stage.  You may even envision walking across Ponte Vecchio and browsing the vast array of gold adornments in the high-end jewelry shops.   One should not miss however the rustic beauty around every corner.  Additionally, Florence has unmatched cuisine of any place I have visited.  So much so, I even took an Italian food cooking class where I learned to make a four-course authentic Italian meal.

A multi-city cruise can be amazing. It is one of the greatest benefits of cruising; being able to visit a city without making a full commitment.  This is perfect for Pisa.   Livorno is not only a port serving Florence and Pisa but also cities such as Lucca, San Gimignano, Siena and Cinque Terre.  For us, it will be our entry to the cities of Florence and Pisa.  If only there was more time, I would visit some of these other beautiful villages.

Duomo Milan Italy

Milan, Italy

We arrived on Thursday morning to the city of fashion.   Milan is said to be the fashion capitol of the world.  I can at least vouch Hotel Starthat it has some of the most expensive fashion in the world.  It could compare to South Beach any day with prices and style. It’s also the biggest city in North Italy and the financial capitol of Italy.  Milan is not only a city with a bank on every corner, there are plenty of museums and monuments of old to see and enjoy.  I was pleasantly surprised.  Let me say from the beginning that Rick Steves’ travel guides are by far the best in the world and always a handy reference for any trip to Europe.
