Oh how one loves to detach from the world and escape from the struggles of “real life”. Yet, where does one go to do that when you only have a weekend? For Floridians, I think Marathon might be just the ticket.
Driving, it takes about two and a half hours with normal traffic from Miami. Once there, you are in another world. A world that is “Key” style laid back but very comfortable.

Castaway Waterfront Restaurant & Sushi Bar

There are many restaurants close by such as Castaways. For young and old, there is a plethora of things to do such as jet-ski, boating, fishing, or you can visit the Turtle Hospital and learn about how they save, rescue and release sea turtles.
A great place to stay is the Courtyard Marriott Marathon. Upon entering the hotel to the time we left, the staff couldn’t have been nicer and more helpful. From the front desk to house cleaning staff – they were all wonderful by acknowledging us as we walked past them; it means so much. This hotel shows its newness in its fresh clean appearance and decor. The pool bar/cafe excellent- staff and food. The pool area is clean and beautifully groomed with stunning views all around. This would be a great place to have an outdoor wedding as well. My room; a king with scenic balcony, was spacious and clean and with modern touches such as a microwave and refrigerator. There is a Publix and a CVS nearby for supplies, medications and sunscreen. Also close by is Sombrero Beach with sparkling white sand, picnic area, and free parking.
If you need a quick budget friendly getaway for a weekend, Marathon, FL might be what you are looking for too.
